I usually say that I have military backgrounds from both sides of my family, which is true, but then after that I usually mention that my grandfather fought in WW2 in the Wehrmacht, which I find to be pretty neat. I'm sure that maybe it's not that big of a deal after all, but even still, I don't think my grandfather would have liked me mentioning the fact that he was in the German army during WW2 just for bragging rights. I heard that at one point, he was captured by the French and held hostage, and they even tortured him. Supposedly, had a really big issue with the French afterwards, which is only natural. I don't know too much about him, to be quite frank and he died before I got to meet him, which is a shame because I really wanted to.
